GIMME LIKKLE ONE DROP
TARRUS RILEY
CHIMNEY RECORDS
As one-drop rhythms, essentially a modern updating of the rockers sound
created by Sly Dunbar at Channel One during the mid-1970s, have been
the bedrock of Tarrus Riley’s oeuvre to date, it’s not too surprising
to hear him play tribute to the same. He creates a sprightly, joyous
little affair in doing so, one that could easily be a summertime pop
hit in the UK if picked up by a non-specialist radio deejay.
As
is the fashion these days, there’s no dub version on the flip but
another vocal – the almost as strong “Ain’t No Giving In” from the up
and coming Chronixx.
