Promise of marriage keeps police from stopping the party
Mash it Up!, the occasional, micro-club returns to Kentish
Town on Friday 16th May 2003 (capacity just 100 people).
To make sure that the drinks are served at pub prices rather than
at silly Camden club prices, it is being held in, wait for it...
a pub. Camden police however, will only grant an extension to
regular pub licensing hours for certain reasons. The organisers
were surprised to discover that simply playing the very finest
in upbeat, danceable reggae and straight-up funky-assed funk from
the old school is not, in itself, reason enough for the Camden
constabulary.
In the worthy cause of reasonably priced, late night booze therefore, organisers have taken drastic measures to placate the police. A thorough program of Chinese burns in fact, assisting the course of true love by forcing two of their mates to have their engagement party at the club.
Club organiser, promoter, DJ and doorman (it is a micro-club!)
