With an impressive gathering of roots artists who sew the seeds
that grew the roots to the doctrine.
Wailing Souls In the early days this group consisted
of Winston 'Pipe' Matthews, Lloyd 'Bread' McDonald, and George
'Buddy' Haye, before breaking up in 1968.
The group worked with famed producer "Jo Jo" Hookim
and his Channel One label. They recorded classics like "Things
and Times," "Joy With Your Heart," and "Very
Well." In the early 80's they worked with a number of hot
producers including Sly and Robbie recording "Old Broom"
on their Taxi Label, "Fire House Rock" for "Junjo"
Lawes'
Meditations Ansel Cridland and Danny Clarke' and Winston
Watson,
During the 70's they recorded with Dobby Dobson and release "Message"
from the Meditations, one of the most breath-taking albums ever
recorded, with hit singles like "woman is like a shadow"
and "Running for Jamaica".
They left Dobson and joined Lee "Scratch" Perry it was
Perry who introduce them to Bob Marley that resulted in the trio
backing The Wailers on "Rastaman Redemption" and "Punky
Reggae Party". Today the group are seen as the elder statesmen
of Roots
Fred Locks aka Strafford Elliot started is career
as a member of the vocal group the Lyrics, in the mid seventies
he took on the name Fred Locks, it was the release of his enduring
roots anthem "Black Star Liner" which include hits "True
Rasta Man" in 1975 that put him on the reggae map. Fred
locks is a distinctive Rasta artist who really records songs not
in a strictly conscious vain
Israel Vibration is one of the greatest triumphs to come
out of the Jamaican reggae scene. Israel Vibrations first single
release "Why Worry" (1976) They teamed up with Ian and
Rodger Lewis from Inner Circle, to record their debut LP "The
Same Song" for Tommy Cowan's Top Ranking label. The album
contained such songs as "Same Song, Weep and Mourn,."
The Same Song was released in 1976 and was a huge success. Israel
Vibration takes great pride in being performers. They feel their
purpose as singers of reggae music is to spread the message of
Rastafari to everyone who is willing to listen.
