Motion Records are pleased to announce
the release of the long-awaited Lee
'Scratch' Perry compilation BORN IN THE SKY: UPSETTER AT THE CONTROLS
1969-75.
Over a third of the twenty two tracks
on this CD were mastered from Perry's
recently unearthed original 1/4" tapes and include nine previously
unreleased cuts including four previously unreleased songs and
five
previously unreleased alternate takes. The rest of the tracks
on the album
have not appeared on CD before and have been painstakingly mastered
from
rare vinyl singles. The album was licensed from Lee Perry himself
(although some tracks had to be subsequently licensed from Trojan
Records)
unlike many more dubious releases currently on the market.
The Double vinyl gatefold album contains
two additional tracks, and a
three-track EP (12" vinly & CD) has also been released
to promote the album.
The detailed sleeve notes in the twenty
page full colour booklet were
written by compiler David Katz, whose biography of Lee Perry 'People
Funny
Boy' was published recently by Canongate Books (www.canongate.net)
and is
shortly to be launched in the USA by Grove Atlantic. The CD booklet
contains several previously unpublished photographs of Perry,
a detailed
track by track analysis, and a look at Perry's personal and musical
history.
Artists featured in the set include Lee
Perry, The Upsetters, The
Silvertones, Prince Jazzbo, The Ethiopians, Susan Cadogan, Jimmy
Riley,
Stranger & Gladdy, The Versatiles, Dread Locks Faye and others.
All tracks
were produced and/or engineered by Lee Perry, the majority at
his famed
Black Ark studio. Listen and appreciate the unique and unbeatable
genius
of Lee 'Scratch' Perry.
This release is the Fourth in a successful
