Nighthawk Records is pleased to announce the publication of a new, Second-Edition to Roots Knotty Roots ­ The Discography Of Jamaican Music, 1950 ­ 1985. This much-anticipated upgrade to the Jamaican music discography project is now available with the release of a new Second Edition available in two alternative media formats.

The Book: The new book runs to 600 pages with more than 550 pages of discographic detail documenting over 38,000 titles. This includes over 9,000 new titles plus many thousands of additional corrections and revisions. This edition expands on Volume I to the extent that virtually every data record has undergone some revision ­ ranging from minor to major resulting in a more complete and more accurate account of releases that virtually doubles the previous knowledge base!

The Software: For users of Windows PCs, we are very excited to announce a new software program on CD-Rom that lets users run the Roots Knotty Roots database on a home or office computer. The new application is designed to serve the most demanding needs of collectors well into the future by providing several valuable research tools. With this new program, users can search the database by any criteria and re-sort by any category plus update to the most current DB version online. This is the future of the Jamaican music research project. The utility and flexibility built into the software is like having ten books in one!

The Website: Jamaican music collectors now have a website that will serve as a focal point for the research, study and discussion of topics and issues related to the Jamaican Music Discography Project. Visitors will be able to access a variety of content that relates to the project and to participate directly in discussion among experts. We will utilize web technology to serve the goal of streamlining and speeding up the process of database additions and corrections in a public forum of interested researchers.
