BIOGS

Heatwave vs Mas Fuego!

Heatwave have been keeping dancehall events in London and beyond since 2001 and Heatwave vs Mas Fuego! has been going from strength to strength since its launch in January 2005, with fresh selections and exclusive live PAs. So far Yungun, Riko, The Bug, Warrior Queen, Suncycle, J Star, Latin Clan and Sidestepper's Rubi Dan have passed through to do their dancehall/latino thing.

Lady Chann (Suncycle)

One of the leading members of the UK's top dancehall act, the Harlesden-based Suncycle crew. Established in the late 90s by CEO, MC and producer Dolamite, Suncycle's three self-released albums Brokwile: Levels 1, 2 and 3 led to a deal with international publishing/management company Jamdown. The video for lead single Somebody off 2004's I Am Somebody album received heavy play from UK cable music station Channel U. Other members include Gappy Ranx, Vigilante and Redman UK. Chann killed it alongside Gappy and Vigilante at the Heatwave vs Mas Fuego! launch party back in January 2005.

Criola aka Gemini (Latin Clan)

The UK's first lady of latin hiphop & reggaeton! MC, musician and producer Criola is a long-time collaborator with Latin Clan, London's undisputed kings of Latin hip hop. Only 23 years old, performances to date include the Jazz Cafe, Latin Splash Festival and the 1st London Latin Hip Hop & Reggaeton Festival - where she battled freestyle against 20 Colombian, Cuban and Venezuelan MCs! The only female MC on stage that night and holding her own! Criola is currently collaborating with Courtney Pine's pianist Alex Wilson (of R'n'B Latino fame), as well as her own productions, which have appeared on a number of compilations.

No Lay (Unorthodox)

The newly-crowned Queen of UK Grime/Garage, No Lay's biggest tune to date, Unorthodox Daughter, featured on the first major grime compilation Run The Road, released on the 679 label (home to The Streets and Kano). After starting out as a drum & bass/jungle MC at the tender age of 12, No Lay now heads up the South London garage collective Unorthodox (also featuring Silver, G-Kid & Don Gully). Releases like Flows On Lock and the unusually politically-aware No Help, No Handouts have got radio play from the likes of Kiss, BBC 1xtra and Choice FM, while No Lay has smashed it at a whole heap of raves including Sidewinder, Prince's Trust Urban Music Festival, Fabric and i-D live @ Cargo.

The Heatwave DJs

Holding it down for over three years with their crunked-up dancefloor blend of dancehall/bashment, R'n'B, reggae, soca and reggaeton which has earned them numerous guest slots alongside the likes of Buju Banton, Suncycle, Robbo Ranx, Tubby T, DJ Vadim, The Bug, Yungun, Warrior Queen, Coldcut and Ross Allen.

Heatwave's residencies at 333, Momo's and Herbal and recent appearances at big nights including Champion Sound (Cargo), Fidgit (Plan B), Bristol Carnival, Wwwhut!? (93 Feet East) and the Non-Stop label launch party have earned them praise from the likes of Time Out: "the most exciting new luminaries of London's burgeoning dancehall scene".

Also responsible for a glut of remixes on the bootleg 7" imprint Punchline, notably a refix of Trick Me by Kelis featuring Beenie Man & T.O.K. and a Super Cat vs The Pharcyde cut on the evergreen Stalag riddim. These have been rinsed on radio and in dances alike by Gilles Peterson, David Rodigan, 100% Dynamite/Soul Jazz, Daddy G (Massive Attack), DJ /Rupture, Blood & Fire, The Bug and more.

A couple of Heatwave mixes available to download here www.xiquet.net. More soon. The Heatwave DJs also write the monthly dancehall round-up and charts for Undercover Magazine and www.musicalbear.com

The Mas Fuego! DJs

Lubi Jovanovic has been pushing Latin music for over 20 years, DJing all over the UK and Europe and writing the Latin Lowdown for StraightNoChaser magazine. Not to mention releasing a string of hit compilation CDs for Nascente Records, shifting upwards of 100,000 units and counting of titles such as Urban Latino, Beginner's Guide to Cuba and the upcoming Mas Fuego! - 100% Reggaeton. More info at http://members.lycos.co.uk/djneil/files/lubi_el_slavoloco.htm

DJ MDK is Twice as Nice's official European tour DJ, with a summer-long residency at Twice as Nice in Ibiza. He plays a tightly-mixed set of dancefloor R'n'B, Jamaican bashment, French Caribbean dancehall, reggaeton and zouk.
