Greetings,Please forward for me the following message
to any conscerned people worldwide:
*******************************************************
Greetings in the name of his imperial majesty's love,
My name is wicks odiri.Am a reggae ambassador dj
member from Kenya(Afrika).I've been obliged to raise
this urgent message as a matter of great conscern to
all reggae lovers worldwide.
We have been trying by all means whatsoever to keep
the reggae beat alive and kicking(coz it might sucumb
to death from pop music' stiff competion)here in
zion.I had many creative ideas of reinventing new
styles to hook up new fans and still keep the old ones
over the airwaves and clubs but my dream is fading
fast.
We people of Afrika have been locked out of almost
everything and music has been our sole source of
inspiration for long to everything we face daily like
poverty and diseases of all kinds. And now,Artists and
reggae labels are also following suit to the
shit-stem's directive and are locking us out
musically!!I tried and was able to secure a reggae
program at local radio station which i play strictly
reggae music once a week coz i can't be able to run
more frequenly due to music shortage. The show has been
running thruogh the help of some few friends of the
music.
People in the reggae indusry will always keep on
wondering why pop music do so good worldwide but fail
to overstand that the pop people always include Africa
as a prospective market and so don't lock us out! For
insatance,My fellow pop dj's who i work with at the
station take less than a moth to get new releases by
the pop labels and so, they end up overshadowing us
coz they are given more airtime compared to us(Once
per week)We the few who play the reegae beat on radio
and club's get a real rough time coz we don't get
promotional musicv for airplay and if we do get, they
don't reach in proper time for proper promotion and so
end up lagging behind in the music!
Am deeply hurt by the reggae trend right now in
Afrika. Why can't major reggae labels and artists
include African radio and club dj's in their
promo-mailing lists? Our listeners have to listen to
the music so that they can get to know what reggae is
all about. They can't buy what they have never heard or
known so the more we don't play, the more the music
fades away slowly!(and very painfull to us)coz we
don't have the resources to keep in check the
loopholes.
What am 100% sure about is that reggae can be a
mainstream music here in Africa(that's if reggae
labels and artists wan't it to).And if any one is in
doubt,they can ask artists like;Gregory
isaacs,maxi-priest,luckydube,yellowman,beenie man
among others who have been here in Africa to surpport
reggae music!
Any lover of the music interested in keeping and
surpporting reggae right here in Africa by sending
either new or old music can either contact me at the
following emial:wodiri@yahoo.com or they can send
their materials through the following address:
wicks L.M.H.Odiri

Please don't lock us out of reggae music.
One love and inity,Wicks"wickydon'Odiri.
